I was rejected applying as a HS seniorMay 10 2009Unknown
I was rejected applying as a HS senior. Matter fact, nobody from my graduating class was admitted into Syracuse. (And we're talking about 9 applicants including myself) It was my dream school but since everyone that applied from my school did not get in I didn't feel as bad. I instead went to a community college and worked my butte off at that community college. I was determined to give it a second try. I maintained a really high GPA, did alot of community service and applied again. I was given the chance this time to attend. Looking back at it, I realize that I personally did not have the SAT score to gain admission. I strongly recommend pulling the best grades possible and getting your SAT score as high as possible.

To gain admission here you must demonstrate a strongMay 09 2009Chemical Engineering
To gain admission here you must demonstrate a strong love of learning. A desire for a quality education. Admissions officers are more interested in students who knows there's a primary reason for college and are open to learn many different things rather than only coming for the prestige.

Having said that, Syracuse looks at test scores but personality, passion and interest in the school holds just as much weight. In all honesty, Syracuse is not for everyone. It is for the go-getters, the free-thinkers, and the hard working. If you're trying to seek the greatest possible intellectual challenge ever then Syracuse is for you.

Advice: The best essays are the essays that would either make the admissions officers cry or laugh really hard. I suggest "WOW" the admissions officers with a killer and genuine essay and apply Early Decision if Syracuse is your first choice.

The formula is simple:: solid grades, solidApr 30 2009Journalism
The formula is simple:: solid grades, solid SAT scores, solid recommendation, solid essay, solid extra-curriculars = your foot in the door. Lacking one of these things wouldn't make you an auot rejection but just make sure every other quality stands out.

Considering out of 15 people that applied to SyracuseApr 24 2009Electrical Engineering
Considering out of 15 people that applied to Syracuse from my high school (a competitive prep school in NY) only 3 people got in (including myself), you can pretty much determine the selectivity of Syracuse. I personally was President of three organizations in my school, had a 2140 combined SAT score and a 3.9 weighted GPA. I'd say take the hardest courses possible in your school. Syracuse wants to see that you have potential in thriving in their classes. Don't blow off the essay either. It may just be good enough to tip you in but can hurt you as bad as poor grades. Maintain excellent grades, show passion in something, network with faculty at Syracuse and you should have a descent shot.
